A Thousand Boy Kisses follows the life of Poppy and Rune, childhood best friends who turned into lovers.
The story begins when Rune Kristiansen and his family move into Blossom Grove, Georgia from Norway. Poppy and Rune first meet when Poppy Litchfield approaches the Norwegian boy, introducing herself with a handshake. From there, they vowed to be best friends.
Their childhood is filled with memories until one day, Poppy’s grandma falls ill.
Poppy’s grandma is very fond of her and shared a special love with her grandpa. Throughout her life, she kept a jar of paper hearts and every time she shared a special kiss with her husband, she wrote it down for her to remember the special feeling. Passing on the jar, she hands it to six-year-old Poppy, giving her a new adventure of filling the jar with a thousand special kisses.
After the passing of her grandma, Poppy and Rune grow their relationship and become closer than ever. They were inseparable and the story continues to follow their teenage romance. That is until Rune’s family needs to move back to Norway.
Once Rune moves back to Norway, he becomes angry with his parents for taking him away from his beloved. Despite both Rune and Poppy being of a young age, their love for each other represented the strong bond they had since they were children.
While Poppy and Rune kept in contact for a few months, Poppy eventually cuts all communication with him. Her family also moves out of town due to a secret she keeps from Rune. That is until she turned 17. Her arrival back home was met with shock when she discovers Rune is also moving back into the house next to hers.
Upon Rune’s arrival, Poppy can no longer recognize the boy she once loved. Rune, on the other hand, suffers from the pain of her disappearance.
