Limited Edition, the “Most Oreo” Oreo: Is It Worth All the Hype?
We all know the West Side of Manhattan as being the dividing line between the Jets and the Sharks, where Tony and Maria found love, but over eighty years prior, that same area changed the cookie industry.
It all started in 1898, at the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) in Manhattan, New York, where the company produced and sold Barnum's Animal Crackers. In 1912, food scientist and former company employee, Sam Porcello, or “Mr. Oreo” as he came to be known, was just messing around with cocoa powder and the cookies the company made. After hundreds of failed experiments… the Oreo was born.
When the beloved cookie sandwich was first created, there was only one flavor and now over eighty-five flavored packages are seen around the globe in almost every store you shop in. We are accustomed to seeing the original Oreo cookie, but over the years we have seen several interesting ones. From peanut butter, to mint, to birthday cake, to double stuff, to mega stuff, to holiday themed and more, Oreo is always coming out with something new for us to try.
The latest and greatest creation came earlier this year, when Oreo released their newest edition to your family cookie jar, with their “Most Oreo” Oreo. This unique Oreo cookie sandwich is like no other; it is an Oreo stuffed with Oreos packed inside an extra layer of cookies and cream flavored creme filling. However, I bought a package and I have to admit it, they are not that great.
When you open the package, they just smell like regular Oreos, and when you pick one up, they fall apart. No matter if you dunk it, you twist it, or you bite it, it does not change anything.
I assumed that I would taste something different when I tried this new flavor, but it really is not that special to me. I feel like there is too much going on and the creme takes over. This new Oreo is just a monster size cookie with an overwhelming amount of creme, and when biting into one, it is difficult to even taste the actual cookie due to the giant chunk of filling inside.
Not everyone agrees. “They are good and worth trying,” said my friend and current Neumann student, Joe Clark, after he tried these new Limited Edition “Most Oreo” Oreos.
Despite his takes on this new creation, I would have to disagree, I do not feel they are worth the hype. If you’re expecting to eat an Oreo that will make you feel something special, I hate to break it to you, but that will not be happening. If you wish to devour a package of cookies with a thick quarter inch of creme filling, then go pick up the “Most Oreo” Oreos at a store near you for a limited time. However, if you are conflicted, then listen to me, save your money, and buy the original Oreos instead.
