Neumann Men’s Volleyball is set to start conference play this Saturday February 10th against Marymount University in a tri match between Marymount and, non-conference opponent, Saint Elizabeth University.
Neumann goes into this game with a record of 3-3 having picked up their third victory during the week, February 6th, against the University of Valley Forge. They won that game in a convincing fashion winning 3-0 with the scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 26-14. When talking to Freshmen Trey Edmonds about the game he said, “ My biggest takeaway [from last game] was that every game is winnable and that if you play around nothing is guaranteed.” This makes it two straight wins for the Knights as they also beat Hood College last weekend, February 3rd, when they played a Tri-Match in Frederick Maryland.
As the Knights look to keep up their strong form, they will be the host to Marymount who is currently 14th in the nation and Saint Elizabeth University in a Tri-Match. As the Men’s volleyball team is a bit more on the new side, they have only faced Marymount three times but have lost each matchup against them 3-0. They have played Saint Elizabeth four times, having lost the last two meetings 3-0 as well.
When speaking to senior and co-captain Brandon Baskerville he said that for him “of course we want to win these games, but the biggest thing is getting that 1% better each game.” For him being a senior he probably won’t be able to see the full potential of this freshman dominated team, but he still wants to see this program succeed once he graduates.
Going into this weekend both Brandon and Trey are optimistic and said that to take away some wins this weekend they will need to come in with high energy like they did against Eastern when they took the first set 25-8, but this time be consistent with the energy to see out the entire game.
The Knights will definitely have an uphill battle but it won’t be impossible for them to pick up some wins this weekend and try to keep their hot streak alive.
