Welcome back! Our patience and prayers over these past six months have given way to a Fall semester propelling each of us forward to a more resilient future. In this week’s readings, Jesus states to His disciples, “Deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Me.” We, as Christians, seek our own comfort zones especially when we are weary or burdened. We must remain steadfast; not conform but be renewed with the mercy of Jesus. Jesus never made the promise that we will not suffer – by telling us to “take up your cross” He clearly implies that we will have times that are not always easy.
"Never before has suffering taught us more about ourselves."
In the Gospel, Peter was astonished that even Jesus did not escape suffering! Never before has suffering taught us more about ourselves. Throughout these difficult times we have witnessed the good and the bad, the easy and the difficult, the sinners and the saints all over the world. In the face of these unfortunate times, many have stumbled along the way. The resulting question may be, “How are Christians going to react to those who reject the word of God and the life of the Christian community?” Our call is to remain true to who we are and follow the words of Saint Paul this week: “That you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.” Have a wonderful and blessed Semester!
