There are some people who may feel at times that they are worthless and that their existence does not matter. In the Second Reading this week, we learn that we all have a very important part to play in the Body of Christ. In the reading, it says, “The body is not a single part, but many. You are Christ's body, and individually parts of it.” Whether you are a Neumann professor or student, a child, or a doctor, we all have a unique role. Without students, the professors could not teach, and without professors the students could not learn. Also mentioned in the second reading: “If a foot should say, ‘because I am not a hand I do not belong to the body,’ it does not for this reason belong any less to the body.” Although some people may feel less than others, we are all the same in God’s eyes. The feet and hands work together to help the person’s body move. Although they are not the same and do not have the same functions, they work together to get a job done. As God’s people, we all play different parts in his mission. There are priests whose job it is to explain the Word of God, and it is our job to live it. We then need to go out into the world and express the Word of God not only in our words, but our actions. We have to show people and make them recognize that God’s plan for each of us, although different, makes the word of God real. When we look at children, they are the “young parishioners” of the church. It is important that they know the word of God from a young age and are able to spread it effectively.
Whenever I feel down, I always remember that God has a plan for me and that without me, his plan would not work effectively. Although the hand and the foot have completely different functions, the body would not be able to function correctly without them. We can walk anywhere we want with feet, but without hands, how are we to hold, feel, and grip items in our daily life. And without feet, how would people get to their desired destination. People need to have this same mindset when thinking about themselves as a part of God’s plan. Being a part of God’s plan means that God chose us for a reason. God wants us to do a task for him. When looking at a priest or a sister, they have the unique task of making sure God’s message reaches to a wide range of people. When it comes to the congregation of people, listening, it is our job to spread God’s message to all people. When Jesus died on the cross, he did not do so accidentally. Jesus died on the cross to free us from sin so we could all live and spread God’s word knowing the true meaning of God. If God was willing to send his only son to spread his message and die to save us from sin, it is up to us, to continue spreading God’s message one person at a time. As a person who tries to spread God’s message constantly, I make sure to show people they can do it as well. Spreading his message does not have to be the same for everyone and a person can do it many different ways. Whether it be through acts of service, prayer life, being active in your school or home community, or just by small acts of kindness, these actions all spread the word of God and are very important when it comes to playing a part in Christ’s plan.
