Prayer for Lighting the Advent Wreath Candles: Week Two

God of power and mercy open our hearts in welcome. Remove the things that hinder us from receiving Christ with joy so that we may share his wisdom and become one with him when he comes in glory, for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Advent Reflections

"I was once again grateful for this reminder from our readings that we, especially during this Advent season, are called to be a loving presence in the world." -  See Patrick's reflection on the readings here.

"Like Mary, can we accept the deepening of the lives that we have already been given? Can we say “yes” and let life be sacred?"

Feast of the Immaculate Conception - December 8

Immaculate ConceptionSince the Feast of the Immaculate Conception is December 8, during Advent, there is a common misunderstanding that the feast day celebrates the immaculate conception of Jesus, when really it celebrates the immaculate conception of Mary to her mother, Anne. It doesn't help that the Mass readings of the day are of the Annunciation - the Angel Gabriel's appearance to Mary. Check out this article for more on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and click the photo above for a feast day reflection.
