President's Update: Plans for the Spring Semester

Neumann University Community,

I hope this email finds you well.

I want to make you aware of several updates, as we turn our attention from the fall semester to spring 2021.  Due to the current surge in COVID 19 cases in the region, Neumann University is staggering the start dates for spring semester.

The changes are as follows:

  • Graduate and Adult courses will start as scheduled on Monday, January 11, 2021.
  • Undergraduate courses will start on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

These dates and plans reflect current conditions and are contingent upon any additional directives we receive from the Governor’s Office.  Our intention is to offer a mix of in-person, hybrid, and online courses throughout the entire spring semester; however, there is a possibility that all courses, Graduate, Adult and Undergraduate, may have to be fully online at the start of the spring semester.  If this were to occur, classes would stay virtual pending announcements from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Despite the change in the above start dates, our plan at present is to maintain the spring 2021 academic calendar, including maintaining spring break from Monday, March 1, 2021 until Sunday, March 7, 2021 as well as continuing to have graduation ceremonies as planned in May.  Additionally, our tentative plan for Residence Halls is to have students move in on January 15, 16 and 17, 2021.

Again, in-person instruction and on-campus housing may be impacted if additional state-wide restrictions are mandated prior to mid-January.  Please look to Neumann’s web site and emails from University officials for changes or updates.

Finally, any student who lives on campus will be required to be tested for the coronavirus before returning for the spring semester. Upon arrival, students must either present evidence of a negative Covid-19 test taken within 3 to 5 days prior to their return or agree to a campus-administered test upon arrival.

I am confident that we can manage these changes smoothly and have a successful and safe learning experience in the approaching spring semester. Thank you for your understanding and for your part in keeping our university family safe and healthy.

Merry Christmas and many blessings in the New Year.

Sincerely,

Dr. Chris Domes
President
