The Neumann University Players will stage 9 to 5 The Musical on March 21-24 in the Meagher Theatre.
The play features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and is based on the 1980 hit movie about three female coworkers who concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical bigot they call their boss.
Performances are scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, March 21-23, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 24, at 2 p.m. General admission is $10 with special $5 pricing for students and seniors.
Songs include 9 to 5, Here for You, Backwoods Barbie, Cowgirl’s Revenge, and One of the Boys.
The musical boasts 13 cast members, including Marina Powell as Violet (Lily Tomlin’s movie role), Brenna VanderGeest as Doralee (Dolly Parton), and Evelyn Doran as Judy (Jane Fonda). Drew Tisdel plays Franklin, the villainous boss.
“I wanted something to showcase several of our ladies in the leads,” says Director John Baxter. “They all seemed to really like the idea of this one. Musicals will always draw the biggest crowds, and this one just felt like the right show at the right time.”
The Neumann University Players is a company of students, faculty, staff, and alumni founded in 1984.
The group produces two or more fully staged plays annually, selected from a wide range of drama, including Shakespeare, musicals, and contemporary plays. Students can perform in, manage, design, market, or be part of the tech crew for these productions and can earn credit for their participation.
