From the President
To our alumni and friends:
Those of us in the Neumann family are well aware of the university’s commitment to our mission and RISES values: Reverence, Integrity, Service, Excellence, and Stewardship. We speak of them openly at college events and in daily interactions with each other.
In this issue of Accent magazine, we shine the spotlight on a host of our alumni who are living that mission. In the cover story you will meet graduates who have embraced the Franciscan tradition in a variety of fields: social work, art, education, immigration, and community service. Their stories are inspirational and embody the counsel that Catholics attribute to St. Francis of Assisi - Preach the Gospel at all times. If necessary, use words.
You will also read about the President’s Advisory Council, a group of alumni who have agreed to devote their time and talents to open career pathways for students of color, first-generation students, and those with challenging socio-economic backgrounds. The Council’s efforts will identify opportunities for internships, networking and mentoring to generate connections that will prepare these students for professional livelihood and enhance their social mobility.
Finally, you will learn of the contributions of Dr. Sandra Weiss, who dedicated 45 years to teaching students Biology and Clinical Laboratory Science, and Ann and Mark Baiada, who recently donated $1 million to Neumann. They are not alumni, but their service to this university has been remarkable and critical to our success.
This edition is truly a collection of stories about members of the Neumann community who live Gospel values. We are fortunate to have them carry the torch of Franciscan charism, and I am deeply grateful to them all.
Dr. Chris Everett Domes
President
