Pillar I: Leadership

Leadership is the signature goal of Neumann University’s strategic plan. We are committed to creating a culture of leadership on campus and to developing, educating, and forming compassionate, transformational leaders.

14 Leadership Programs for Students

Our Student Affairs unit sponsored 14 distinct leadership programs for undergraduates in 2023-24. The events covered a wide variety of topics from club leadership training and developing character strengths to entrepreneurship and financial literacy. There were even training sessions on establishing personal boundaries and QPR (question, persuade, refer), a suicide prevention method.

“Equipping our students with leadership skills is essential for their personal and professional growth,” says Sarah Williamson, dean of students. “In Student Affairs, we recognize that leadership programming fosters individual confidence and cultivates a sense of community and responsibility.

“By prioritizing peer-to-peer education, we empower students to learn from one another, share diverse perspectives, and develop the skills necessary to navigate challenges and inspire change. Together, we are shaping the leaders of tomorrow who will make a meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.”

Of note is the fact that our Leadership Scholars, a group of seven student leaders on campus, planned most of the programs and training sessions during the year. These students applied for a specialized scholarship when they were admitted to Neumann and were selected based on their leadership involvement in high school.

Staff from Student Affairs meet with them bi-weekly to help them learn about leadership. The scholars then apply what they have learned to create leadership development opportunities for the greater community.
