From the rhythmic chants to the gravity-defying stunts, every moment is a testament to the dedication, unity, and unwavering spirit of Neumann University’s cheer team.
Neumann University’s cheerleading team’s journey begins long before the first game whistle blows. Months of rigorous training, sweat-soaked practices, and endless rehearsals lay the foundation for what promises to be an unforgettable season. Each member of the squad brings their unique talents and passion, forming a tightly knit family bound by a shared love for cheerleading.
The team captain of the cheerleading team, Diamond Camp, stated, “The early mornings and late nights spent perfecting routines are not without their challenges. Fatigue sets in, muscles ache, and doubts creep in. But it's in these moments of struggle that we find our strength. Encouraging words from coaches, the unwavering support of teammates, and the burning desire to excel fuel our determination to push through every obstacle.”
Co-Captain Brielle Hargrove pointed out, “As the season unfolds, we become more than just a group of individuals. We become a synchronized force of energy and enthusiasm, igniting the crowds with every cheer and dance. The bond is forged through countless hours of hard work. It's a bond built on trust, camaraderie, and a shared dream of victory.”
With each performance, the cheerleaders strive for perfection knowing that every move, every smile, and every shout matters.
“The thrill of stepping onto the mat, field, or court [and] feeling the eyes of the crowd upon us is both nerve-wracking and electrifying,” Camp explains.
Despite these challenges, they are still able to embrace the pressure, channeling it into the routines with grace and confidence.
“Victory is not always guaranteed, but it's the journey that defines us. Whether we're celebrating a triumphant win or learning from a disappointing loss, we do it together, as one cohesive unit. Each setback only fuels our determination to rise stronger, to push harder, and to reach new heights,” continued Camp.
Since the team does not take on outside competitions or travel for trophies, “Beyond the trophies and accolades lies something far more valuable which are the memories we create together.” said Camp.
From the great highs of a flawless routine to the laughter shared during downtime, those moments become the blueprint of their collective experience. Those moments and memories remind them why they fell in love with cheerleading in the first place, which was the joy of performance and the bonds that last a lifetime.
Both the captains reflected on their own personal highlights throughout their years at Neumann University.
Camp stated, “Personally, the boys [basketball] winning a championship was a highlight moment for me throughout my years here doing the sport I love. One of the ultimate goals for any cheerleading squad is to win a championship. Whether it's a regional, national, or even [an] international competition, the thrill of achieving victory after months of hard work and dedication is unimaginable. Since Neumann Cheer does not travel or do outside competitions, it is understandable why this was a big moment for me.”
“Another highlight for cheerleaders is the opportunity to perform at a major event, such as a college football game, basketball game, or even a professional sporting event. Mine personally was performing at the playoff games because stepping onto the court in front of thousands of spectators whether it is in-person or [a] virtual viewing, the feeling of the energy of the crowd and knowing that all eyes are on you is an out of body experience that showcases your skills and passion for the sport,” said Hargrove.
Camp and Hargrove agreed that the highlight of the year for a cheerleader is a culmination of hard work, teamwork, personal growth, and unforgettable moments that celebrate the passion and dedication to the sport of cheerleading.
As the season ends, they look back on their journey with pride and gratitude. They have grown not only as athletes but as individuals, learning the importance of perseverance, teamwork, and dedication.
Though the cheers may fade, and the season may end, the spirit of cheerleading lives on in people's hearts forever.
