Achieving Athletic Success with Honor

Published on: Oct 2, 2014 11:05:00 AM

In this keynote session from the 2014 NCEA Soul of Youth Sport Symposium, Sam Tropiano, Head Baseball Coach at Bishop Eustace Preparatory school in New Jersey, discusses how we can achieve and encourage athletic success while upholding our Catholic identity. Tropiano also addressed how we can hold student-athletes to high standards of scholarship, athletic performance, community service and sportsmanship.

Sometimes, a “win at all costs” mentality impedes these goals. How can we refocus on honorably playing the game? For one, Tropiano notes, the same values that are professed in the classroom and by administrators – including responsibility and respect – need to transfer to the sports field.
