Thoughts on REFLECTION

One of the key values on the pillars in the atrium of the Mirenda Center is reflection. The act of reflecting is thinking about a past action or moment and how is has affected you. As young adults I think we sometimes forget to reflect and just take a second out of our days to just sit and think.

Reflection can help in many different settings. For example in the classroom after you finish a test you’ve been studying for you can think about how prepared you were and what you can do better for the next test. These few crucial minutes can make the difference between an A and B.

Another setting in which reflection is key are sporting events. I think the goal of the ISSCD is to encourage us, as student athletes, to look more into our games than just wins and loses. As a member of the men’s soccer team here at Neumann University, after every game I try to take a few minutes to reflect on how I performed and what I could have done better. But one of the biggest things I have learned from reflecting is to know I have no regrets once I walk off the pitch. Even though reflection may not always bring up a person’s strengths, it can give them a chance to think about and improve on certain areas of their game.
