Sister Cora Marie Billings, RSM

Join us on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at 12:30 p.m. for a Black History Month presentation with light lunch and conversation. Our guest speaker is Sister Cora Marie Billings, RSM, featuring a panel of Neumann students. This event is co-sponsored by Mission & Ministry and the Theology department and will take place in the Mirenda Center for Sport, Spirituality, and Character Development. All are welcome!!

Sister Cora Marie Billings, RSM, was born and raised in Philadelphia. She has been a member of the Mid-Atlantic Community of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, Merion, PA, since August 22, 1956. Coming from deep Catholic roots, Sister is the first African American woman from Philadelphia to be admitted to a Religious Congregation in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.  In her years of service, she has been a teacher on the elementary, high school and college levels.  She has also served as the Director of the Office for Black Catholics and Pastoral Coordinator of two parishes in the Diocese of Richmond, Virginia.  Sister was also the Deputy Director for the Human Rights Council for the State of Virginia.  Sister is a life-long member of the National Black Catholic Sisters Conference. Recently retired, she is very active as a speaker and advocate for justice and service.
