Alum raises $8,500 for St. Francis of Assisi School

Presenting a check to St. Francis of Assisi School are alumni Tom Van Horn and Vince Sculli with senior Danica Pedone.

Vince Sculli had been the owner of Choice SportsCards for just a few weeks when St. Francis of Assisi School in Springfield was gutted by fire in October of 2024.

As a new CEO in Delaware County and someone personally affected by the fire (his two daughters attend St. Francis), he wanted to help. Months later, after plans to rebuild the school were announced, he remembers “the idea that came to me as I was driving down 95.”

Sculli would ask local businesses to donate $100. Half would go to the school rebuilding fund and half to produce a set of 1,000 first-responder cards – featuring a police officer or firefighter on the front -- with information about the sponsoring business on the back.

Neumann senior Danica Pedone, who works at Choice SportsCards part-time, filmed Sculli announcing the fundraiser and posted the video on social media in late July.

“Within 24 hours, it exploded,” Sculli recalls. “Clients from Florida, Los Angeles, the Eagles and Major League Baseball responded.”

Principal Nicole Hamilton and St. Francis of Assisi students accept a check from Vince Sculli.

On September 8, he presented St. Francis of Assisi School with a check for $8,500. He also donated signed baseballs from Phillies stars Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber for an auction to support the

reconstruction. Repairs are underway with a planned reopening in the fall of 2026.

Choice SportsCards, located in Aston, is more than 30 years old and employs over 40 people. Sculli has made the rare journey from intern to owner. As a sport management major, he had internships with the company in his sophomore, junior and senior years.

A member of the class of 2010, he took his last exam in marketing in early May at 8 a.m. and reported for full-time work at 9 a.m. the same day.

Sculli worked in operations and sales for 10 years, was promoted to vice president, and purchased the company from its retiring owners in September 2024.

He is grateful for his Neumann education, admitting that “I still use things every day that Professor (Robert) Till taught me.”

Two other Neumann alumni work at the custom trading card company. Tom Van Horn is an account executive, and Kayla Buckley is the director of finance and executive administrator.
