Students got the chance to see the Institute for Sport, Spirituality and Character Development exhibits.

Dr. Julie D. Lanzillo, assistant professor of Sport & Entertainment Management, brought 19 students from Bonner-Prendergast High School to campus on June 24 as part of the summer class she’s teaching the rising seniors.

	Charles Sack, director of athletics and recreation, discussed the components of a collegiate athletic department with the students.

In addition to a tour of the Mirenda Center, the students also had the opportunity to hear from Charles Sack, Neumann’s director of athletics and recreation, and Jill Weigel, the university’s sports information director. The administrators explained the basic duties of a collegiate athletic department, discussed some of the specific job opportunities that are available in this field, and shared some of their own stories and experiences.

The students then met Jeffrey Eisenberg, the coordinator of new media, communications and events for Neumann’s Institute for Sport, Spirituality and Character Development. Jeff explained the purpose of the Institute and introduced the students to the exhibits (mounted on tall, illuminated pillars) that fill the Bayada Atrium of the Center.

To complete a paper assigned by Dr. Lanzillo, the students finished their campus visit by reading stories in the exhibits that exemplify the qualities of sport that the Institute emphasizes: balance, beauty, play, reflection, and respect.
