Bringing Queen Elizabeth II to life

Alisa Dupuy as Queen Elizabeth II.

The late Queen Elizabeth II will visit campus on September 5 in a performance by historical impersonator Alisa Dupuy. The show is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in the Meagher Theatre.

Dupuy is the founder of and talent behind The Ladies of History, a company that offers 35 different shows, ranging from Martha Washington and Catherine the Great to Alice in Wonderland and Female Spies of World War II.

The goal of the organization, which Dupuy launched in 2006, is to highlight, through enjoyable and memorable presentations, the contributions that women have made to history.

Dupuy’s impersonation of Queen Elizabeth II brings the monarch to life as she was in 1977, the time of her Silver Jubilee. The queen will regale the audience with stories from her youth, give her twenty-fifth anniversary speech, and be available for photos after the performance.

Elizabeth II holds the mark as the United Kingdom’s longest ruler, serving for 70 years from 1952 to 2022. Her reign spanned 15 prime ministers, from Winston Churchill to Liz Truss.

“I chose to do Queen Elizabeth II because I have always admired her. My grandmother looked a little bit like her, and I adored my grandmother,” says Dupuy. “So, I promised myself that one day, after the queen had passed, I would portray her so that people could get to know her a little better as a person.”

Dupuy is a recently retired teacher from Princeton, New Jersey, public schools where she taught French for more than 26 years. She realizes that the contributions of many women were omitted from the historical record and wants to highlight their achievements through her performances.

The event is sponsored by the Cultural Arts Forum at Neumann University. The Forum hosts lecture series, workshops, and author presentations to enrich the educational experiences of the university and the community.

Admission is $10, and proceeds support the Dr. Margaret Mary Kearney student scholarship fund, which assists non-traditional students at Neumann.
