Cardinal John Njue, Archbishop of Nairobi, Kenya, visited campus on August 17 to discuss the possibility of an educational partnership with Neumann.
According to Dr. Len DiPaul, associate dean of the Division of Education and Human Services, the cardinal is interested in pastoral counseling students advising nursing teachers at Regina Caeli School in Nairobi. During his visit, Cardinal Njue and seven associates discussed this partnership with Dr. Rosalie Mirenda, Sr. Marguerite O'Beirne, OSF, Dr. James Houck, and Dr. Sophia Park at two meetings.
By the time he departed, the cardinal was encouraged about the potential of the partnership, said DiPaul. Njue invited a Neumann contingent to visit Nairobi in the near future to continue the conversation.
The cardinal was in the country for the fourth annual Swahili Mass, held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Bear, Delaware. Njue, ordained to the priesthood by Pope Paul VI in 1973, is the fourth Archbishop of Nairobi. He previously served as Co-adjutor Archbishop of Nyeri and Bishop of Embu. He became a cardinal in 2007, the appointment of Pope Benedict XVI.
