Celebrate Constitution Day

The library is the place to be on Constitution Day – Wednesday, September 17.

Free pocket-sized copies of the Constitution will be available while supplies last, and a two-hour documentary about the "origin story" of the Constitution will play at noon in the library classroom.

Library Director Tiffany McGregor and her team have focused on America’s beloved founding document all month. A Constitution Day display contains a sampling of books about Constitutional law and Constitutional history from the library's print collection as well as poster-sized versions of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

There is also an assortment of related digital artifacts from library databases; the films, articles, and ebooks displayed can be accessed by posted QR codes.

According to the U.S. Department of Education website, September 17 is Constitution Day and Citizenship Day. This day commemorates the September 17, 1787, signing of the United States Constitution.”

Congress first established this observance in 1952. Since 2005, each educational institution that receives federal funds for a fiscal year is required to hold an educational program about the U.S. Constitution for its students on September 17.
