Kelly Lawler
Neumann is hosting an art exhibition of chakra-inspired color washes by Kelly Lawler in the McNichol Gallery through December 9.
Chakras are centers of energy in the body, thought to influence physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Each chakra is associated with a specific color, location in the body, and set of emotions. Balancing chakras through yoga, meditation, or energy healing is believed to restore harmony.
Lawler describes her solo show, titled Auric Fields, as works that “explore the luminous energies that flow through us, offering a space for reflection, stillness, and a deeper sense of connection.”
The opening reception for the exhibition is on Saturday, November 8, from 2-4 p.m. A sound bath and artist talk are scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, from 6:30-8 p.m.
A sound bath is a meditative experience where participants “bathe” in the sound waves produced by various instruments such as gongs, Tibetan singing bowls, crystal bowls, chimes, and other resonant instruments. Participants should bring their own mats, blankets, and pillows.
A proponent of socially engaging art, she received her MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2023, holds a MS in Sports Administration from Georgia State University and a BFA in Graphic Design from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Lawler exhibits her work and hosts community events across the Philadelphia area, including the Philadelphia Jewish Museum of Art, National Liberty Museum, Abington Art Center, and Gross McCleaf Gallery. She has shown her work in Chicago and has created commissioned public works for several organizations in Philadelphia.
A Landmark scholarship awardee, Lawler has received an Illuminate the Arts Grant from Creative Philadelphia, the Creative Entrepreneur Accelerator Grant from the City of Philadelphia, and the Deena Gu Watercolor Prize from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
