Neumann’s basketball coaches and players hosted the 14th annual Hoops from the Heart Martin Luther King youth basketball clinic at the Mirenda Center for Sport, Spirituality and Character Development on Monday, January 19.
The clinic ran from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and was conducted by women's coach Frank Farnese, men's coach Jim Rullo and members of the Knights' hoop teams. Players were grouped by age and ability and received instruction in all aspects of fundamental basketball and team play.
Proceeds from the annual event benefit the Community Action Agency of Delaware County, which provides services to needy families in local communities. In addition to operating shelters and daycare facilities for individuals and families, the CAADC also provides many vital services including welfare to work programs and food and fuel assistance. Players were asked to bring one or two non-perishable food items or canned goods to the event.
The annual MLK Hoops from the Heart basketball clinic was founded in 2002. Since its inception, the clinic has raised more than $65,000 for the CAADC. This year's proceeds will be targeted toward families in crisis.
