Dr. Chris and Mrs. Mary Domes appear several times in a video to promote the launch of a new coffee-table book, The American Tailwind: Warren Buffett and the History of American Resilience.
The book weaves together stories about the ethical lessons Buffett learned from his family and the sacrifices made by military families to keep America free. According to The American Tailwind website, this blending of tales “showcases how these elements intertwine to shape the foundation of American freedom.”
Buffett, 93, is chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, a conglomerate holding company headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. His investment strategies have made him one of the wealthiest people in the world.
The video highlights Buffett’s gratitude for those who served, captured in one of the telling comments by the businessman and philanthropist: “It is beyond arrogance for American businesses or individuals to boast that they have ‘done it alone’. The tidy rows of simple white crosses at Normandy should shame those who make such claims.”
Jim Marshall, one of the authors of the book, formed a friendship with Dr. and Mrs. Domes during the couple’s time at Silver Lake College in Wisconsin. Marshall and his wife Peggy own Spectrum Investment Advisors and are ardent admirers of Buffett.
During a tour of the Spectrum corporate offices in 2018, Mrs. Domes was impressed by two large displays: a mural about the life of Buffett and a wall filled with 60 framed stories about the military service of Spectrum employees. She remarked that the collected stories would make an interesting book.
Several years later, Marshall called Dr. Domes, told him that the book was written, and asked him to write the foreword.
“American Tailwind is a positive book about American patriotism,” said Dr. Domes after the late-November event at which the video was shown. “It gives us a powerful insight into the extraordinary life of Warren Buffett and the selfless experiences of those who served this country.”
