Students studying esports at Camden County College now have a clear path to join the esports program at Neumann, thanks to a dual admissions agreement that was signed on October 21.
The partnership allows CCC students who earn an associate of applied science degree in esports production to continue their education in Neumann’s esports industry and content management major.
In a nod to the burgeoning interest in esports, the signing ceremony concluded with a Rocket League scrimmage between esports clubs from the two schools.
“For students, this partnership helps create a pipeline that wouldn't have existed before in the up-and-coming industry of esports,” explains Brian O’Doherty, director of undergraduate admissions at Neumann. “Camden County College's associate degree program complements our program which focuses on the business side of esports with a curriculum that also emphasizes content creation.”
Dr. Barry Person, Jr., the School of Business professor who created the major and minor in esports at Neumann, is optimistic about the industry’s future and the agreement with Camden County College.
“The esports arena is being recognized as an industry of its own,” he says. “There are career opportunities now that may not have existed 10 or 15 years ago. It’s not just video games. The field involves sports facilities, content creation, professional leagues, and trends and analysis operations.”
The money flow, he explains, comes from companies that want to advertise to a specific demographic, registration fees, high-level investors, and sponsorships opportunities through TikTok, Twitch, and YouTube TV.
“It’s a global network,” he says, “and that really helps generate interest. You can play with or watch people playing anywhere in the world. So much is still going to happen as the industry evolves.”
To be eligible for the partnership, CCC students must complete a dual admissions form and Neumann application, graduate with a 2.0 GPA, and enroll at Neumann within a year after graduating from CCC.
Neumann will waive the application fee for CCC students and award academic scholarships of $12,000 to $17,000 based on a student’s cumulative GPA.
