The Delaware County Partnership for Public Safety announced today it will host a public program for local businesses, academic and health care institutions, and non-profit organizations on strategies for entities to embed safety as part of their daily culture.  The program, which is free and open to the public, will take place on Tuesday, October 11 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Neumann University in the Bruder Life Center.

Speakers, including representatives from law enforcement, security experts, and other leaders in the field of public safety, will discuss strategies for businesses and other organizations to foster a culture of safety and preparedness among their staff and employees on a daily basis.  Participants will have the opportunity to learn about best practices, strategies to raise awareness among staff, and how the use of technology can improve safety in the workplace and other venues. Individuals will also have the opportunity to hear from local executives about lessons learned from past traumatic events.  

“Local organizations and businesses understand that public safety needs to be a top priority, and education and implementation of best practices play a major role in creating a safer environment,” said Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan.  “This event will provide the general public, human resources and business executives, and non-profit leaders with access to experts in the field.  Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about real world, practical solutions that will help make their companies, schools, health care facilities, and other organizations safer.” 

The Delaware County Partnership for Public Safety is a joint effort formed earlier this year between the County of Delaware, the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, and Neumann University.  For individuals who cannot attend the program in person, the partnership will provide a live stream online at www.neumannpublicsafety.com/ beginning at 9 a.m.  The website is compliant with the American with Disabilities Act to provide expanded access to a wider range of individuals with disabilities, including sight, hearing, and other impairments.    

“This marks the second forum hosted by the Partnership for Public Safety and we look forward to building on the success of our May program, which attracted more than 300 attendees, as well as many online views of the program on the Partnership’s website,” said Dr. Rosalie M. Mirenda, President of Neumann University. 

“These programs are all about providing the public, local businesses and other organizations with access to information and experts that they would not be able to obtain on their own,” said Trish McFarland, President of the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce.   

Registration is free and open to the public; however, space is limited to the first 300 registrants. There is no charge to attend the event and a light breakfast will be provided during check-in from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Advanced registration is required and can be completed online on the Partnership for Public Safety website at www.neumannpublicsafety.com/. About the Delaware County Partnership for Public Safety

The partnership is a new collaboration between Neumann University, Delaware County Council, the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office and the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce to promote, support and sustain a culture of safety and security in Delaware County for businesses, institutions and community organizations. The Delaware County Partnership for Public Safety will host public educational summits to identify threats, promote best practices and improve collaboration among interested partners to educate the community on a variety of issues related to the safety of Delaware County residents.
