Neumann University Director of Athletics and Recreation Chuck Sack announced the hiring of Scott Hammell as the Head Coach of the newly established Club Baseball team.

“We are excited to welcome Scott to this opportunity,” stated Sack. “He has demonstrated a significant commitment to Neumann University and our values. Scott is going to help us establish a super club baseball program.”

A native of Williamstown, NJ, Hammell was a four-year member of the Neumann University Baseball team where he was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference All-Academic Team for four consecutive years and as the John A. Phillips Scholar Athlete Award recipient in 2012. He was also the captain of the University’s first Baseball Team to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

The Neumann graduate most recently served as an Assistant Coach/Director of Baseball Operations for the University’s NCAA team. His primary responsibilities included working with the outfielders and pitchers as well as the implementation of conditioning programs and a ‘Mental Toughness’ series. Hammell is also a full-time Residence Life Coordinator in the Student Affairs Division at Neumann.

“It is both an honor and a privilege to be appointed the Head Coach for the Club Baseball team. For me, baseball and Neumann go hand in hand, as most of my fondest memories from this institution came on the field or with my teammates,” stated Hammell. “I am looking forward to helping shape these student athletes into the best baseball players they can be, as well as to assist them in their journey to becoming better men both on and off the field.”

The team is a member of the National Club Baseball Association (NCBA) and will compete in the District II-South conference of Division II. The conference also includes club teams from Rowan, St. Joseph's, University of Penn, and Villanova. Neumann will host a pair of exhibitions this Fall including Holy Family on October 26 and LaSalle University on November 1. The conference schedule will then commence in Spring 2015.
