Ten honor society induction ceremonies this year were held on April 26, a massive evening of celebration to honor Neumann’s best and brightest.
Students who qualified for the honor societies gathered with friends and family in the Meagher Theatre at 6 p.m. to hear opening remarks by Dr. Chris Domes before dispersing to other campus locations for separate induction ceremonies.
The total number of inductees that night, including one faculty member and two staff, reached 99:
Number | Honor Society | Field of Study |
---|---|---|
6 | Psi Chi | Psychology |
7 | Phi Alpha | Social Work |
10 | Delta Mu Delta | Business |
7 | Lambda Pi Eta | Communications and Digital Media |
14 | Sigma Tau Delta | English |
3 | Alpha Sigma Lambda | Adult Continuing Education |
7 | Chi Sigma Iota | Clinical Mental Health Counseling |
9 | Sigma Zeta | Science and Math |
11 | Alpha Phi Sigma | Criminal Justice |
25 | Kappa Delta Pi | Education |
Scheduling multiple induction ceremonies for the same night was a change for Neumann. In the past, honor society events had been arranged by departmental faculty and scattered over several weeks leading up to final exams.
A few induction ceremonies maintained this tradition and recognized students on different dates. On April 22, Athletics and Recreation inducted 50 student-athletes into Chi Alpha Sigma, a national society that recognizes students who have excelled in the classroom and athletic competition.
Twenty-five nursing students were inducted into Sigma Theta Tau on April 14, and 49 became members of Delta Epsilon Sigma, the national Catholic honor society, in February.
In total, there were 220 inductions of students into 13 honor societies this year.
