Just two months after graduation in May 2015, Krista McAndress began working as a medical technologist at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). In an email to a faculty member, Krista described herself as “super excited” to get “a real big-girl job with full-time hours, benefits, and paid vacation” at the prestigious Philadelphia hospital.

In August 2016, she was promoted at CHOP from working in the chemistry lab to working in the metabolic lab. She is now doing mostly mass spectrometry work for metabolism disorders.

Her major, Clinical Laboratory Science, is one of the most popular programs at Neumann among first-year students in 2016:

Krista has the background that hospitals and medical research firms seek. She can work with computer programs and computer-controlled equipment, and apply good laboratory technique and safety practices.

“Krista was offered several employment opportunities in various clinical laboratories,” recalls Dr. Sandra Weiss, director of the CLS program. “She has been able to pick the clinical laboratory that she feels will further her career.”
