The Meagher Theatre is on a hot streak. Only months after a $100,000 grant from the George I. Alden Trust to renovate its backstage spaces, it has received a $283,392 Pennsylvania state grant to renovate the main performance space.
State Representative Leanne Krueger announced on December 18 that the funds would be funneled to Neumann through the Delaware County Redevelopment Authority. It is one of seven projects that she championed to benefit Legislative District 161 and all of Delaware County.
“Our plan is to use it for upgrading the theater rigging system, stage lighting, some renovations of the theater workroom, and possibly some lighting for the Art Gallery,” explained Nick DiMarino, coordinator of cultural arts.
“Each entity receiving these competitive grants proposed projects that will have a broad, positive impact on not only the residents within my district, but in Delaware County as a whole,” said Krueger. Other local projects include the renovation of the second floor of the Aston Township Fire Department and the purchase and installation of 16 license plate readers at four intersections in Nether Providence Township.
The grants were approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority through the Local Share Account grant programs to support projects in the public interest and projects that improve the quality of life of residents in the community.
The PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act provides for the distribution of gaming revenues to support these projects.
