Meet Harriet Tubman at Neumann
Dr. Daisy Century appears as Harriet Tubman on Thursday, April 13

On Thursday, April 13 at 1:30 p.m. Neumann University’s Cultural Arts Forum presents Meet Harriet Tubman featuring Dr. Daisy Century.

Born a slave on a Maryland plantation, Harriet Tubman’s indomitable spirit could not be broken despite all her suffering.  Working with the Underground Railroad, her passion was freeing slaves.  Tubman worked as a Union spy and nurse during the Civil War and worked for humanitarian causes including women’s suffrage after the war.  Tubman encouraged people to put others first and claimed that during her railroad days, “I never ran my train off the track and I never lost a passenger.”

Trained as a teacher, Dr. Daisy Century earned a BA in Biology at Claflin College, a Master’s in Science Education from South Carolina University and a PhD from Temple University, also in Science Education.  Dr. Century contacted the American Historical Theatre(AHT) and auditioned for AHT founders Pamela and William Sommerfield in 1999. Since then, Daisy has appeared in venues that include the National Defense Organization, Belmont Mansion, National Archives, Sojourner Truth House, Theodore Roosevelt National Historic Site, the Helicopter Museum, and numerous schools, libraries, museums and historic sites throughout New Jersey.

This event is presented by the Cultural Arts Forum, which has been sponsoring events to support adult women students at Neumann University through the endowed scholarship named in honor of the founder of the Forum, Margaret Mary Kearney.  Since its founding in 1970, the Forum has presented more than 250 events and seminars.

The event will be held in the Fred P. Meagher Theatre in the Thomas A. Bruder, Jr. Life Center on campus.  Admission is $10. Free for Cultural Arts Forum members.  Please contact Nicholas DiMarino at 610-558-5626 or at dimarinn@neumann.edu for more information.
