One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.
That’s how a studio set used by the Kamala Harris presidential campaign found a home in the Mullen Communications Center.
Alumnus Michael Yarabinee is the COO of Electro Sound Systems, which handled almost every livestreaming event for Harris-Walz. To do so, the company built studios at the White House, the Democratic National Committee headquarters, and the campaign office in Wilmington.
“Once the election came to a close, we were responsible for dismantling two of the studios that we built. We either dumpster them or donate them,” Yarabinee explained.
Enter Sean McDonald, executive director of Neumann Media, with whom Yarabinee has kept in touch since his 2019 graduation. Because McDonald had visited the Wilmington studio and was impressed with the set, Yarabinee offered it to Neumann.
McDonald has positioned the walls of the set throughout the Mullen TV studio. The backgrounds include a bookcase, lighted shelves, and a section with an 85-inch digital screen against a brick facade.
It has already been used by CDM students, NeuPress editors, Campus Ministry, and the Alumni Association.
