Enrollment numbers, new majors, a digital forensics lab, and flag football are signs of growth and an exciting year on campus.

Preliminary fall registration numbers indicate an uptick in overall enrollment from 2,171 in 2023 to 2,242 this year. Neumann maintained its enrollment despite the national trend and the long delays that all colleges experienced in receiving data from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Neumann also continues to serve a large number of first-generation students. Sixty-five percent of this first-year class is first-generation compared to 53 percent two years ago. The increase signals Neumann’s ongoing commitment to provide opportunities for social mobility, a strength that has been recognized for years by U.S. News & World Report.

“High quality academic programs, outstanding campus facilities, and exceptional people are the reasons why Neumann can attract and retain diverse and talented students,” says Dr. Chris Domes, Neumann’s president. “Given the number of higher education choices and the decline in the numbers of students attending college, I am very pleased with our positive enrollment results.”

The faculty have also introduced new academic programs that link student interests to career pathways. The School of Business added a total of eight majors, including esports, media content creation, and civic and strategic communication. The School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Education introduced a minor in sustainability. The School of Nursing and Health Sciences has expanded its curriculum and added a Doctor of Nurse Practice (DNP) program that will launch in 2025.

In May, the cybersecurity major expanded with the addition of a digital forensics lab, the result of a partnership with local law enforcement. The lab engages student interns in solving real crimes with state-of-the-art technology.

During the summer, eight students – including criminal justice and psychology majors – jumped at the chance to get experience at analyzing seized digital devices, examining video surveillance recordings at crime scenes, and monitoring live video cameras during real-time crime.

In athletics, the new flag football club has generated positive media coverage and created a buzz on campus. The squad is set to play an exhibition game during homecoming weekend on September 28 at 6 p.m. Coached by alumna Nellie Mixon, they begin Atlantic East Conference competition in the spring.
