Neumann honored veterans in two distinct ways in April.
Professor Andy Miller, with the help of students, organized a World War II ceremony to commemorate the service and sacrifice of veterans on April 20. Special guests were Howard Turner, who drove an Army tank in World War II, and Alan Macauley, a U.S. Marine who was wounded on Iwo Jima.
The event was held in Bachmann 138, the history classroom, which was packed to overflowing with students and faculty on hand to meet the veterans. Speakers included Col John C. Church, Jr., USMCR, commanding officer of the 3D Civil Affairs Group and an assistant professor at Immaculata University, and Dr. Lawrence DiPaolo, Neumann’s vice president for academic affairs.
On April 22, Joel Natale, Neumann’s registrar, organized the first Suiting Warriors event on campus. The organization provides free professional attire to student veterans, their spouses, and veterans in the local community.
Based in the Schmidt Multipurpose Room, the event drew at least half a dozen veterans who left with suits and neckties.
