Neumann University has named Dr. Alfred G. Mueller II as dean of the Division of Arts and Sciences. Mueller assumed the post on July 1, 2013.

Dr. Mueller is an award-winning teacher in the field of Communication Studies. In 2010, he earned the Harvey Kelley Excellence in Teaching Award from the Pennsylvania Communication Association. Earlier this year, he also earned the Donald H. Ecroyd and Carolyn Drummond-Ecroyd Teaching Excellence Award from the Eastern Communication Association. Throughout his twenty-year career, he has published a number of articles in such journals as The Successful Professor and Communication Teacher, sharing teaching strategies for use in the college classroom.

Mueller is also an internationally and nationally recognized scholar. His book, In the Name of God, chronicled the rise of the Uniate Catholic Church in Ukrainian politics as Ukraine transitioned from a Soviet Socialist Republic into a New Independent State. In 1997, he participated in a bridging project sponsored by the Ford Foundation between the University of Iowa and Moscow State University, studying the relationship between Russia and the Caucasus. In 2005, he served as a Fulbright Scholar in the Republic of Armenia and presented original research in the National Academy of Science. In 2008, his research on the Armenian Genocide was cited by the American Psychological Association in its “Resolution Against Genocide.”

Before coming to Neumann University, Mueller served as Chair of the Department of Communication Studies at Mount St. Mary’s University from January 2011 to June 2013. At the Mount, Dr. Mueller oversaw a revision of the department’s major and minor curricula and the creation of the first departmental Facebook and Twitter pages.

Prior to his service at the Mount, he was program coordinator of the Letters, Arts, and Sciences baccalaureate program at Penn State Mont Alto from the program's inception in April 2007 until December 2010. He briefly served as interim Assistant Director of Academic Affairs for the campus. From 2007 until 2010, he was also executive director of the Eastern Communication Association, a professional organization that serves more than 800 communication educators in the Northeastern and Middle States regions of the United States.

Dr. Mueller currently lives in Media with his wife, Lusine, and their two children, Helena and Jacob.
