Janet Whitman and the Brandywine Harp Orchestra return to Neumann University’s stage as part of the 2013 Cultural Arts Forum program on Thursday, December 12, at 1:30 p.m.

America’s premier harp orchestra brings out its Celtic Connections, a concert filled with Irish and Scottish traditional and contemporary holiday music. Performer/director Janet Whitman, a National Scottish Harp Champion, will delight the audience with this talented and unique ensemble of 15 harpers and singers with extensive musical backgrounds from the Brandywine Valley.

The ensemble was organized in 2000 and consists of harpers of diverse ages with seasoned harp skills and extensive musical background from the Brandywine Valley or Southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland. Their programs feature the many talents of its members, which include choreographed dancing, solo and choral singing, poetry, percussion, storytelling and original compositions. In 2009, they were the first American Celtic harp orchestra to perform at the Edinburgh International Harp Festival in the festival’s 29-year history.

For 37 years, the Cultural Arts Forum has been sponsoring events to support adult women students at Neumann University through the endowed scholarship named in honor of the founder of the Forum, Margaret Mary Kearney. Since its founding in 1970, the Forum has presented more than 240 events and seminars.
