Delaware County resident Stephanie Stupka has received a Crozer-Keystone Health System Hospital Laboratories Medical Technology Scholarship. Stupka, a senior clinical laboratory sciences (CLS) major at Neumann University, received money toward her tuition at Neumann and will also work for Crozer-Keystone after graduation as part of her scholarship. 

The Crozer-Keystone Health System (CKHS) Hospital Laboratories offers a scholarship program to senior medical technology students. The program is designed not only to financially assist students who have chosen a medical technology career, but also to provide employment opportunities following graduation. The scholarship is based on the student’s commitment to a career in laboratory science, clinical excellence exhibited in the Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS)/Biology program, recommendations from supervisors, instructors and employers, and academic achievement.

“When I went for my interview I noticed two other candidates from different schools. I later learned I was one of two scholarships given for the 2013-2014 school year. I was so nervous,” said Stupka. “When I learned I got the scholarship I was so relieved! All my hard work at Neumann was paying off, and I finally saw a light at the end of a long journey.”

The CLS program at Neumann University prepares students for work in medical center clinical laboratories, blood banks, and research and industry laboratories. Students perform a range of laboratory procedures, not limited to DNA electrophoresis, chromatography, and microscopic examinations. Students also utilize research and analytical skills that will enable them to play critical roles in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease through clinical study.

“Stephanie came to Neumann University as a transfer student with quite impressive credentials. She had an associate degree, taught hematology to undergraduate students, and worked several years as a veterinary technician before deciding to study clinical laboratory science,” said Dr. Sandra Weiss, director of the Neumann CLS program. “Stephanie has a superior work ethic, her journals, portfolios and assignments are excellent and stand as exemplary examples of superior work for other students to view. She is a very serious student who investigates multiple sources when challenged with a critical problem-solving assignment and then prepares an extraordinarily complete project to answer the question.”
