Neumann has signed an agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW - Local 654) to accept 90 transfer credits from members who have completed the union’s Apprenticeship/Journeyman program since 2017 toward the university’s Bachelor of Science in Business and Organizational Studies.
“Needing just 30 credits to complete the journey to a college degree is an attractive feature for IBEW members,” explains Dr. Jilian Donnelly, executive director of adult and continuing education. “It reduces the cost and time commitment. Those who completed the Journeyman program will have already spent five years and thousands of hours in combined classroom instruction and training.”
According to Donnelly, there are potentially a few hundred members of Local 654 who may be eligible immediately.
“The long-term byproduct of this relationship may lead to partnerships with other IBEW Locals via additional articulation pathways,” Donnelly says.
Graduates of the 5-Year Apprenticeship/Journeyman Program prior to 2017 are eligible for a review of training to determine eligibility of credits by providing documented “Apprenticeship and Training Standards” from when the individual was enrolled in the program.
Those applicants could still qualify for 90 credits, depending upon the documentation.
