Neumann University’s Center for Leadership offers a series of leadership certificates designed for professionals seeking to enhance their ability to lead teams thoughtfully, strategically, and ethically in work environments. This seven-week program is offered exclusively online.

The classes offered include:

Community Leadership – How to become an active participant and better leader in the community

Leadership Habits – Examining specific leadership habits relating to knowledge, skills, and motivation.

Leadership Values – A vital foundation program for emerging leaders through mid-level professionals.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Bias – Learn the tools to bring concepts of DEIB into a more inclusive future

Leadership Communications – Increasing effectiveness and making communication stand out

Professionalism and Presence – Learn tools to help build a professional presence.

The certificate program is led by Dr. Louise Whitelaw, professor of Education. Whitelaw has a PhD in leadership and learning technologies and an undergraduate degree in corporate communications. This series is offered twice a year in a seven-week asynchronous format. Each participant is given a resource book.

The next course in the series, Leadership Habits, begins on September 6. Register here for all leadership certificates.

The Center for Leadership serves as a venue for existing and emerging community, business, and non-profit leaders to enhance their leadership skills. It was created through a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

According to Judi Stanaitis, assistant vice president of alumni and community outreach, the Center for Leadership develops and hosts programs that enhance the leadership journey, from the emerging leader to the advanced professional.

“We continue to work with human resource professionals, managers, and directors to help us define the programs and soft skills most commonly needed in today’s workplace,” she explained. “The Center for Leadership programming allows Neumann to extend its reach into the community and build strong relationships with employers. It’s a win-win for Neumann as we are helping others reach their potential and introducing them to Neumann University at the same time.”

Stanaitis plans to offer CEUs (continuing education credits) to participants who complete the leadership certificates.

On a related note, the Center for Leadership has partnered with the National Association of Church Personnel Administrators (NACPA) and the Catholic Apostolate Center to offer a certificate in human resources in a Catholic workplace. They are seeking a theologian from Neumann University to join the committee. The time commitment is minimal and involves four meetings per year.
