Neumann nursing students and faculty continued their tradition of supporting Aston Community Day by offering free blood pressure screenings at the annual celebration, held this year on Saturday, October 2.

After a parade that stretched along Concord Road from campus to the Aston Community Center, students Alexandria Flacco, Tori Ponto, Michael Rovinski, and Hannah Strobl (daughter of faculty member Patti Strobl) took blood pressure screenings at the center. All are members of the Community Health Nursing class.

Faculty members Dr. Rebecca Mueller and Marie Ranselle coordinated the blood pressure tests, and Lisa Bjorkelo assisted with the children’s Bike Rodeo.

“Today was a great success,” said Mueller. “The students did a wonderful job representing Neumann and providing care to the community.”

The 2021 event was dedicated to the healthcare heroes who have worked so courageously during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, Mueller noted that “We as nurses and nursing students were given a lot of gratitude by community members.”

Community Day officials even asked the nursing students to carry the Citizens of the Year banner in the parade.
