Students from Nursing 440, Community Health Nursing, will participate in a Bike Decorating and Bike Safety Rodeo on Saturday, October 10, at the Aston Community Day and Business Expo. The contest is scheduled for the Big Lots parking lot on Concord Road. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., and judging starts at 8:45.

A Bike Rodeo is the original name of a cycling skills clinic, which is an interactive activity designed to introduce bicycle safety principles and an opportunity to practice riding skills in a closed environment under supervision.

Through a series of stations, the clinic will provide children up to age 12 with an introduction to bicycle safety, including rules of the road, bike fit and maintenance, bike helmet fit, and bicycles skills. 

“The Nursing 440 students are excited to be able to present the cycling skills clinic for the children in the community of Aston,” said Maura Berenato, an instructor in the Division of Nursing and Health Sciences. “It is through this clinic, that children will be able to learn and practice skills essential to keep them safe and cycling for life.”

Prizes will be awarded for the Best Decorated Rides in each of three age groups: birth to 3, 4 to 7, and 8 to 12. Participants must wear helmets and be residents of Aston Township. All contestants will be invited to join the parade from Big Lots to the Community Center.
