Here’s something you don’t see every day, a car covered with Post-it notes.
But there it was in the Abessinio parking lot on October 30, awash in small squares of yellow, blue, pink and green. Not a word was written on any “note” and some windows were left unobstructed, allowing the driver to see.
Who was the perpetrator behind this good-natured prank? Why did it happen?
According to Claudia Trionfo, a junior from Towaco, NJ, “The NU women's ice hockey team is currently in a prank war with each other, in the spirit of Halloween. A group of us did this last night for our teammate to wake up to!”
A “prank war” means that there were other such stunts, right? You bet.
“We plastic-wrapped another car, filled one with glitter-filled balloons, and covered the last car with cups filled with water,” Claudia confessed.
“The pranks are a reflection of our light and fun team culture,” says head coach Gina Kearns. “With all the stresses of school, hockey, and being away from home, the team does a great job of reminding themselves to have fun. We are a family and what family doesn’t play jokes on one another?”
The team is very tight, and good-hearted jokes only strengthen the friendships. “We work so hard on the ice as a group and things like this help us create that bond off the ice as well,” says Kearns. “The best (or maybe worst) part about it is that no one is safe, coaches included!”
Meanwhile, Claudia is pleased that the team’s creativity has been noticed. “I'm glad our prank made someone else laugh!”
Mission accomplished, skaters. We’re still smiling.
