McNichol Gallery will host a photography exhibition by Timothy Stringer from October 22 through December 8.

The exhibit is titled Black and White Retrospective. It includes “Helsinki Harbor,” a work in which the roiling clouds dwarf the harbor below and seem more alive than the inhabited urban spaces they dominate.

Stringer will be the guest of honor at an artist’s reception on Saturday, November 7, from 2-4 p.m. in the gallery.

Although he uses color and form to capture a viewer’s attention in other mediums, he admits that “In photography I utilize black and white to emphasize contrast and form.”

Stringer began focusing on art in the early 2000s, experimenting in digital painting. Beginning with a trip to Alaska in 2015, he has concentrated on photography, exploring the potential of abstract images by using natural and found elements, often in the form of landscapes and botanicals.

“Most of my paintings and photographs are intended as a visual celebration,” he explains on his website, “but I will address ideas and themes intended to invoke thoughtful conversation.”

Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, McNichol Gallery can also be scheduled for group visits by calling Nicholas DiMarino at 610-558-5626.

The gallery is one of seven groups in the Arts Guild at Neumann University, a collection of organizations that bring plays, music, dance, lectures, and exhibits to Delaware County.
