Professors Present Research on Sport Marketingfor Persons with Disabilities

Sport marketing for persons with disabilities is the subject of two scholarly papers to be presented by Neumann University professors during the Sport Marketing Association Eleventh Annual Conference on October 23-26, 2013, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Dr. Andrea Pent and her co-authors studied the effect of sport event attendance on persons with disabilities (PWD) using a modified version of the community benefit model of sport event attendance. The effects of attendance on three participants were examined in detail; study participants experienced sense of belonging, feelings of pride, achievement, social risk taking behavior, feelings of equality, and were encouraged to exercise.

Dr. Douglas Michele Turco and his co-authors profiled spectators’ consumer behaviors from data collected at three Paralympic sport facilities during the London 2012 Paralympic Games. One key finding from the study was that spectators who were connected with a Paralympian spent more money (£22.56 more, on average) and stayed longer (one night longer, on average) in London than other spectator market segments.
