Say Their Names: Unity and Healing

Written by Neumann University | Apr 30, 2021 11:39:51 AM

Dear Members of the Neumann Community,

These past several months, we have experienced much pain and suffering due to the racial injustice in our society. As the semester comes to a close, I am offering a safe and sacred space on campus to come together in unity as we say the names of those who have lost their lives or have been negatively affected by racism. Through the support of Michelle Santana, Coordinator of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives, and the Office of Mission and Ministry, we invite you to come together for moments of silence, listen to poetry by Michelle, and share your thoughts and feelings to begin the healing process brought about from centuries of racial discrimination and oppression.

The program will also include a talk by Michelle Santana about the upcoming DEI initiatives, ongoing talks surrounding racism, resources on campus, and the opportunity to speak with Michelle or myself throughout the summer months.

This event will take place on Friday, April 30th, from 2:00 PM-3:00 PM via Microsoft Teams (Click here to join the event). If you have the name of a loved one you desire to be read during the program, please email me at JOHNSONL@neumann.edu.
