Hundreds of young scientists will test their inventions and science knowledge in dozens of events at the 2017 Southeastern Pennsylvania Science Olympiad Regional Competition on Wednesday, March 1, at Neumann University.

Students from more than 50 middle schools and high schools in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties will compete for medals in two age groups (grades 6-9 and grades 9-12) and for a place in the state competition.

This year’s events included Bottle Rockets, Electric Vehicles, Helicopters, Hovercraft, Robot Arms, Roller Coaster, and Wind Power.

The contests will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Mirenda Center and Bachmann Building on Neumann’s campus with the awards ceremony scheduled for 4 p.m. in the Center.

Launched in 1985, Science Olympiad is now one of the premiere science competitions in the nation. The organization’s events challenge students, teach them about career choices, and introduce them to practicing scientists.
