Senior becomes a Philly PR Girl

Megan Foody

Philly PR Girl, a full-service public relations firm in Center City, knows what interns want. Just ask Megan Foody, a senior CDM major who worked there this summer.

“They gave all six interns real work immediately,” she explains. “I write their weekly blog, track engagement on social media, help run Instagram for the Darren Daulton Foundation, take b-roll video, work on our client newsletter, write press releases, and film TikToks. It’s really fun.”

In addition to enjoying her role, Foody is gaining valuable professional experience and expanding her portfolio. She picks the themes for the firm’s weekly blog and points to a recent post, “How to spend a sustainable summer in Philly,” with a sense of pride.

She is also enjoying life in the big city, a far cry from her smalltown roots in Pitman, NJ. Philly PR Girl (PPRG) is located at 1315 Walnut Street in the heart of Center City.

“I have a 20-minute walk to work, but I go through Love Park and City Hall. The experience has opened my eyes. I see and talk to so many people.”

Even better, she lives with her sister in a Philly apartment and avoids the grind of a daily commute.

The immersion in the world of public relations has also helped Foody discover the talent that she wants to pursue. “I want to do more writing, which surprised me. I thought I’d enjoy social media and TikTok videos more.”

As the new editor-in-chief of NeuPress, she is poised to get her wish this year.

Foody heard about the Philly PR Girl opening from Professor Janis Chakars, who regularly shares lists of internship opportunities with CDM majors. The senior is grateful for the tip, describing PPRG as “a happy, creative, and empowering environment.”

As the name indicates, PPRG has an all-female professional staff. The firm handles event planning, social media management, marketing, and promotions for a broad variety of businesses and nonprofit organizations. A blog by PPRG owner Kate Marlys in 2010 led to the launch of the firm in 2012.
