Students found uniquely personal ways to honor veterans and active duty military personnel on Veterans Day.

History instructor Andrew Miller coordinated the attendance of five students at the Delaware County Marine Corps ball, held November 7 in Boothwyn. The event is held annually in conjunction with ceremonies marking the founding of the Marine Corps on November 10, 1775.

Neumann's Ice Hockey Club

On November 6, members of the ice hockey club unveiled their camouflage uniforms, similar to those worn by NFL and NHL coaching staffs in honor of Veterans Day. The club decided to wear these uniforms to recognize teammate Devin Henry, a Marine who served in the Middle East, and all those who serve. Henry is a junior and a criminal justice major.

Once the team decided to honor veterans, Henry researched camouflage uniforms on websites and found samples at MVP Sports in Aston. Team members chose from the styles available and ordered the jerseys. The club budget and Jim O’Conner, their general manager, split the cost of the uniforms. 

According to Brian Murphy, another member of the squad, the club will wear the uniforms at all home games in November. At the end of the month, they plan to auction off the jerseys and use part of the proceeds to help veterans. Murphy, a senior criminal justice major, explained that, as a Christmas project, the club will also collect tube socks to ship to active duty military in the Middle East.
