Neumann students took home a dozen Catholic Media Association awards in results announced by the CMA on June 27.

Writers and photographers for The Canticle led the way with seven awards. A new Cares for Creation website, WNUW, and NeuPress brought the total to 12 with additional honors.

Faculty and staff advisors for the winning media entries are Maya Jacyszyn (The Canticle), Jim Kain (Neumann Cares for Creation), Sean McDonald (WNUW), and Janis Chakars (NeuPress).

"The success of The Canticle: Issue 2 is largely attributed to the marketing our team did, which is something that was previously lacking,” Jacyszyn explained. “Many campus community members did not know we had a literary magazine they could contribute their creative work to, so I'm ecstatic to see that every email sent or quick mention of the magazine in conversation paid off."

Among the nine schools receiving awards, Neumann’s total ranked second, trailing only Trinity Washington University, which collected 29 honors. Other college winners were Barry University, Catholic University, DePaul University, Lewis University, Manhattan University, Marian University, and Stonehill University.

The CMA’s 2025 St. Juan Diego Collegiate Awards recognize excellence in journalism and communication by students and alumni of Catholic colleges and universities. Entries are judged by selected professionals knowledgeable about Catholic media, including faculty from prominent Catholic journalism schools.
