Henry Sumner, Neumann’s vice president for Institutional Advancement and University Relations, has been elected to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Greater Philadelphia Chapter.  

The AFP represents more than 30,000 members in 235 chapters throughout the world, working to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education and certification programs.  The association fosters development and growth of fundraising professionals and promotes high ethical standards in the fundraising profession.

The Philadelphia Chapter, founded in 1969, serves eastern Pennsylvania and parts of Delaware and New Jersey. Its mission is to enhance the philanthropic effectiveness of the Delaware Valley community through the promotion of ethical practices, professional development, education, communication, leadership and service. 

The Chapter’s career advancement activities include the Franklin Forum, a fundamentals of fundraising course, senior-level seminars, breakfast roundtables, planned giving conferences, and diversity and outreach initiatives.

Sumner has been in his current position with Neumann for 20 years and has led the University through several successful multi-million-dollar campaigns, including On the Wings of Angels, and Grow to Inspire. He leads a staff that is dedicated to the process of building and facilitating relationships with an ever-expanding pool of stakeholders who are encouraged to support the mission and vision of a values-based education.
