The Cultural Arts Forum at Neumann University presents the jazz and blues pairing of The Duo on Thursday, September 8 at 1:30 p.m.
The Duo features the smooth vocal stylings of singer/actress Demetria Joyce Baileyand guitarist/songwriter Skip Barthold and embraces old school Jazz & Blues tunes by artists like Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, George Gershwin, and Duke Ellington.
Bailey was a vocal performance major at Oklahoma City University and she was a featured vocalist with numerous groups including Surrey Singers, Black Student Union Ensemble and performed in numerous theatrical productions. Bailey has also performed throughout the US, Philippines & Japan.
Barthold is a guitarist and songwriter originally from upstate New York. He went to college at Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore where he was a classical guitar student. While in Baltimore he was a member of the Peabody guitar ensemble and a co-founder of the Slim Pickin’s Bluegrass band. In New York, he was a regular participant in Jack Hardy’s Monday night songwriters exchange and was featured on five issues of the “Fast Folk Musical Magazine” including the premier issue.
This event is presented by the Cultural Arts Forum, which has been sponsoring events to support adult women students at Neumann University through the endowed scholarship named in honor of the founder of the Forum, Margaret Mary Kearney. Since its founding in 1970, the Forum has presented more than 250 events and seminars.
