The Philadelphia Phoenix of the Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) will play five 2024 home games on the university’s turf field. With a Neumann ID, admission is free to the home opener on May 5 at 5 p.m.
Chad Johnson, director of Residence Life, will throw out the first pull (like a kickoff in football) to launch the 2024 season.
As part of a larger partnership, the Phoenix will provide a pre-game ultimate frisbee clinic for faculty and students on May 5 and internships for students in sport management and CDM. The university will offer discounted educational courses for team players and staff, while granting facility access for Phoenix practices, media production, and gameday activities.
“This is one of the most unique and mutually beneficial partnerships in professional sports,” said Phoenix majority owner Dr. Christina Lee Chung. “We have a partner in Neumann University that exemplifies excellence, from on-site facilities to educational resources. But their commitment to helping the greater Philadelphia community is what makes this initiative so special.”
“Neumann University is pleased to partner with the Phoenix and introduce the campus community to the exciting sport of ultimate frisbee,” said Dr. Chris Domes, university president. “The league’s integrity rule, which allows a player to overturn a referee’s call and admit a foul, is a perfect fit with Neumann’s athletic commitment to sportsmanship and ethical competition.”
The Phoenix will play five of its six 2024 home games at Neumann, starting with the team’s May 5 match versus the D.C. Breeze. Other games on campus are slated for May 11 at 6 p.m.; June 1 at 3 p.m., 15 at 6 p.m. and 21 at 7 p.m.; and July 20 at 3 p.m.
Throughout the season, the Phoenix will have access to additional facilities for practices, youth camps and pregame tournaments. In turn, Neumann students will receive discounted $5 game tickets for home games after May 5 and a 20% discount on food, beverages, and merchandise.
